Fresh on Flickr: Fireworks

Yesterday was Independence Day which always brings one of my favorite photographic opportunities… fireworks!

Last night we went down by Silver Lake to watch the fireworks in all their glory. I’d been a little concerned about whether I’d be able to get as many good pictures as I had in the past because in the paper they’d said this year there were something like 4,000 more shells than last year’s show and they were just going to shoot them off faster (as opposed to making the show last longer). It turned out my concerns were somewhat justified – many of the fireworks were launched too quickly to get good clear photographs of just one or two explosions at a time. There was also not as much of a breeze as there’s been in previous years, so many more pictures ended up with a lot of smoke being visible in them.

Despite the problems, I still managed to get about 19 pictures I like (out of 209 total images) and when you consider last year I pulled 24 images out of 184 total shots it’s not too bad.

I’ve posted the 19 pictures I liked the most on flickr. Here’s a sample:
